The landlord of the HSBC tower in Canary Wharf is considering a redesign of the building that could see it feature hotel space and apartments.
Canary Wharf Group has invited around 20 architectural practices to submit proposals for the 45-floor building and has begun shortlisting designs in preparation for the bank’s departure in 2026, according to a story by Reuters.
HSBC moved into the skyscraper in 2022, and last year decided to move out to a smaller building in the City.
This development comes following a post-pandemic shrinking of demand for office space, with many now considering the transformation of vacant office space to other uses.
