Somnoo buys 4-star hotel in France

Somnoo Hotel Group has acquired the 80-room La Citadelle MGallery hotel.

Located on Avenue Ney in the city of Metz in France’s northeastern Grand Est region, the property was built in 1559 and was a miliary building before it was converted into a hotel in 2005.

In addition to the 80 rooms, the hotel comprises a restaurant, a lounge bar and several reception and seminar areas.

Founded in 2014, Sonoo owns and operates over 60 hotels across France and Germany.

Transaxio Hôtel provided transaction advice and IDEACT acted as legal advisors.

What they said

Somnoo founders Lars Backhaus and Christian Rousseau said: “La Citadelle Hotel Metz perfectly embodies the spirit we wish to convey: character, exigency and local roots. We are delighted to welcome the teams to Somnoo and look forward to writing this new chapter together. This operation is in line with Somnoo’s strategy of building an integrated, responsible and resilient hotel ecosystem, with the ambition of becoming a European leader in hospitality by 2030.”
