Works are set to begin for a £90 million pound conversion of the Penn School in Buckinghamshire into a luxury hotel.
Located on Church Rd in High Wycombe, the former school will be transformed by Rayners Penn Ltd - a company owned by local businessman Peter Kell and property consultants Lichfield – into a 33-key luxury boutique hotel and spa featuring a gym, treatment rooms, swimming pool, a fine dining restaurant and a cookery school.
In October, Buckinghamshire Council granted permission to turn the school, which has been vacant since its closure in 2015, into a hotel and additional consent has now been given to alter some of the Grade II listed buildings on the site.
Construction is scheduled to commence this year, with the project expected to take around two and a half years to complete.
What they said
Duncan Ball, CEO of Rayners Penn said: “Our vision for Rayners Penn is to create a world-class retreat that reflects the estate’s historic grandeur while embedding sustainability in every aspect of its design. The project will provide lasting benefits to the wider community, and we are excited to see it move forward.”
Sarah Moorhouse, associate director at Lichfields added: “This project has been a great example of how heritage conservation and sustainable development can work hand in hand. Securing permission for a scheme within such a sensitive planning context required careful consideration and collaboration with Buckinghamshire Council and the local community. Rayners Penn will bring substantial benefits to the area while preserving the estate’s rich history.”
