Premier Inn owner Whitbread is set to convert a restaurant into more Premier Inn hotel rooms as part of a refurbishment programme.
The refurbishment will see the Brewers Fayre restaurant at the Yeadon Way Premier Inn turned into 15 additional rooms at the site.
The Brewers Fayre restaurant permanently closed its doors over the summer, with the company announcing in July its plan to shutter around 200 of its Brewers Fayre and Beefeater restaurants across the UK to make way for more hotel accommodation.
Why it matters
Whitbread's decision to convert restaurant spaces into hotel rooms reflects a shift towards rethinking how space is used. With the rise of delivery services and changing consumer preferences reducing the profitability of restaurants, reallocating space from underperforming restaurants to additional hotel rooms not only serves to boost revenue but also as a portfolio expansion strategy.
