Foruminvest buys Rotterdam office building for hotel conversion

Foruminvest has acquired an office building in Rotterdam with the intention to transform it into a 4-star hotel.

Located in the Maritime District on Wijnhaven Island in the center of Rotterdam, the 9,000 sqm building will be redeveloped into 252 hotel rooms, complete with a restaurant and a library with workspaces on the ground floor.

The existing building which has an energy label E will undergo a significant transformation to become a sustainable hotel with BREEAM Excellent certification. The developer and hotel operator also aims to meet the 'Paris Proof' standards for 2045.

Foruminvest says the development of the hotel aligns with its investment strategy, which focuses on high-quality locations in strong European cities and popular tourist destinations.

Why it matters

The adaptive reuse of former office buildings is a trend that has continued to gain traction, with the HSBC office building in Canary Wharf one of the latest in a long string of recent office-to-hotel transformation announcements.
